Vesico-Ureteric Reflux

Paediatric Vesico-Ureteric Reflux is a condition in which urine flows backward from the bladder into the ureters and sometimes up to the kidneys. This backward flow increases the risk of repeated urinary infections and can gradually damage the kidneys if not treated in time. VUR is commonly detected in infants and young children after episodes of fever with UTI, and early evaluation by a paediatric urologist helps protect kidney function and prevent long-term complications.

  • Urine flows backward from bladder to kidney.
  • Common cause of recurrent fever and urinary infections in children.
  • Diagnosed by ultrasound, MCU test, or DMSA scan.
  • Mild cases improve with growth; severe cases need treatment.
  • Management includes antibiotics, endoscopic injection, or surgery if needed.
