Hypospadias

Hypospadias is a common congenital condition in boys where the opening of the urethra is located on the underside of the penis instead of at the tip. It may be associated with a curved penis (chordee) and differences in foreskin appearance. Early surgical correction during infancy or early childhood ensures normal urinary function, proper penile development and improved cosmetic results.

What Happens in Hypospadias?

Hypospadias occurs when the urethral opening does not develop completely during fetal growth, leading to altered urine flow and penile alignment. Surgical repair helps restore normal function and appearance, giving the child confidence and comfort as they grow.

Key Features & Treatment Highlights

  • Downward bending of the penis (chordee)
  • Difficulty with straight urine flow in some cases
  • Daycare or short-stay surgical correction
  • Excellent long-term outcomes with modern paediatric reconstructive techniques
